Spooky season is behind us, which can only mean one thing.

It's turkey time, and by that we mean it is truly turkey time, so call your favorite farm, market, or restaurant to pre-order your bird. If it's too soon to order, set an alarm! If you get a jump on it, you may even find specialties, like side dishes, desserts, or pantry items, like turkey stock or gravy. This is a great way to secure some high-quality time savers, so don't be afraid to let someone else do some of the cooking for you.

If you're itching to get a jump on your holiday prep, this is the perfect time to check a few freezer-friendly items off your to-do list. Cranberry Sauce (or our favorite Cranberry Applesauce), pie crust, and chicken broth are things you will 100% need down the line, so why not get them done now?

If the thought of pie made you tense up, now is a great time to brush up so you're ready for the main event. Step into the test kitchen for a few easy crimps to make any pie look like the pros made it. Is this your year to conquer the lattice? We know you can do it, and here's how. Once you've shaken off the nerves, the only question is Salty Caramel Apple, Chocolate Pecan, or Butterscotch Cream?

Don't forget to look through your menu and identify any tools or ingredients you may need, like pie plates, kitchen twine, or a ricer for your creamy Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Hazelnut Brown Butter. Check your markets for good sales on pricey items like butter or pecans, and stock up (we obviously have Pecan Diamonds on the mind).

We love stocking the freezer with some heat-and-eat meals for later in the month, when things have really ramped up. Beef Chili, Blended Turkey and Veggie Meatloaf, and Lemon-Roasted Broccoli and Sausage will help you down the road when you're hungry and swimming in turkey prep. Of course, when all else fails, there's always pizza night.
